The 3-pin connector for the camera has-
  • a black with yellow stripe - that is the ground for the camera.
  • a red that provides power to the camera when the Spyder is put into reverse.
  • a tan with black stripe is the feed from the camera to the dash display.

So if you are trying to hook up an aftermarket non-BRP camera, it would be
  • black from camera to black/yellow stripe
  • red from camera to red
  • yellow (most common) from camera to tan/black stripe.
Aaahh… Thank You

My backup camera project is done!!! And it works great.
My cost for the whole project was $19.99
I already had the tools and a few of the items I used.

5set 1-1703494-1/1488991-5 Car Reversing Radar Eye Plug DJ7032YA-1.2-11/21 Female and Male Waterproof Connector Inserts - $10.00

After I bought these, I found they are keyed different, so only the pins work, which is really all you need anyway.

Car Rear View Camera Backup Reverse Camera HD 170° Wide Angle 12 LED Night Vision, for RV Trucks Trailer SUV - $9.99

I decided to run an extension cable from the original camera connector to under the seat. This way I shouldn't need to disassemble the side of the Spyder if I need to make adjustments. Then another extension with a power and RCA end to under the rear cargo storage.
I then connected those to the camera ends. The camera is attached to under the rear cargo storage with Gorilla tape. I think that will hold it, but will report back if not.
With his setup, I should be able to replace the camera pretty easily if needed.
The downside to this camera is it also has backup lines, but for the cost, I can live with it.
In the picture, the Red Line is 10 inches from the back of the Spyder.

What year is your Spider Zippy? Mine is a 2024 Spyder RT Sea to Sky, will this setup work on my Spyder?
Mine is a 2024 Spyder RT Limited. The same setup should work on your Spyder as well. I bought a new camera on Amazon ($38) to see if it has a better image. The camera I have now is OK, and works well, but only cost $10. I want to see the difference in the new camera. I'll share results when I try the new camera.

Which pins in the connector went to video, power, ground? The RCA barrel plug off the camera contains both the video and the ground correct? So how did you split that to the pin connectors on the spyder and the one you bought off Amazon?

I changed my camera to the following one:

Much better picture than the $10 camera.
It was easy to do with the way I had wired it originally.

what connector will work with the three wire BRP backup connection? The one Zippy listed is not available anymore it looks like. Would like to plug directly into the BRP plug. Thanks for the god work in making the camera work.

After I ordered the connector, I found the ends are keyed different, but the pins work on the OEM plug, which is all you really need. I would be interested in finding what type of pins they are or as barender has requested,

To me it looks like the blank plug that is on the Spyder that holds the supply plug can be pinned and used.

That is correct. At the time, I didn't know what pins to get so I ordered what I thought was a replacement for the plug, only to find out later that the plugs were keyed different. But the pins worked. chrisb49 found the pins (post #33), so that really is all you need to order. To use the existing blank plug end, you need to get male pins.

Uh-oh... I won't know for sure until I actually install my camera but based on what I had read (or misread), post #33 is for female pins for the "male" connector housing.
Once I confirm things I'll correct post #33.

Hopefully this link works for the Amazon camera Im installing. I cut green and white and left the orange. (Actually, I had to re connect the orange because I had cut it).

my plan is to install camera underneath the license plate, behind the mudflap. I’ll play around with it tomorrow and see where I end up.

Here’s my finished camera. I could’ve probably moved it forward all the way to mudflap, but this will work just fine.

One thing for guys without the pins. I cut up a paper clip and soldered it to the wires. Shrink wrapped, taped and split loomed everything up. Worked great so far. 🤞
