Lost keys

I recently bought a 2010 RT from a friend that lost the keys. I have it running now after doing all the work myself. You do not have to replace the ignition switch and DESS module together to get it running. BRP no longer list them online. But going to dealer websites them list just the new DESS module. All you need to due is replace just the DESS module and order key blanks from BRP. Take the trailer lock barrel if you have it or take off the rear trunk latch assy to a locksmith to make a key that fits X270 is the key blank number and use these cut key to cut the factory keys and you will have a extra to open everything and turn on to unlock parking brake. Service Manual says the DESS will go into programming mode automatically and will program the new cut BRP keys. You need at least 2 keys programmed. You can also buy the Master key from you dealer to be able to program extra keys. Master key is only about $30.00. I did find I had fuel delivery issue after getting to turn the engine over. I have $450.00 in parts for DESS, Keys, Master key and Locksmith chargers not counting my labor.

Read my post. If you can get a key cut to match your ignition switch then you have away to cut the chipped keys. You won’t have to replace the ignition switch you may not be able to get anyway. Buds does not program the keys for Spyders for 2013 and older and will also not disable the DESS. That all started with 2014 Models. Installing a new DESS will self install the first chipped key and save it. Don’t use a non chipped key to turn on your bike the first time after that install of the DESS. The Master key is needed to add more than one key. The DESS NEEDS ONE KEY ALWASY TO OPERATE YOUR BIKE AND TO PROGRAM UP TO 4 KEYS. YOU ALWAYS NEED ONE KEY THAT IS SAVED TO START YOUR BIKE. I CARRY ONE NONCHIPPED KEY AND ONE CHIPPED KEY IF I WERE TO LOOSE A CHIPPED KEY ON THE ROAD.
Search this fourm for DESSS MODULE and for lost KEYS. And search the other Spyder forum for this. It has a lot more post about this.

No not really.
The DESS module must match the keys......and it is purposely designed so that you can not "program" it to recognize new keys without one of the original ones.

IF......you can find a dealer or other mechanic with BUDS and the necessary license, you could disable the DESS and then get a locksmith to make you some new mechanical keys.
But you had better have iron clad proof of ownership to get either of those things done.
