I was sort of thinking the same thing. I'll ask the Spyder Marketing members about the distribution system this weekend. I still have a few things I am unclear on.
Following is my understanding based on discussions of the system with our local BRP dealer (the one with my deposit). As far as I can tell, this is the way BRP distributes all their Can Am products. Dealers are allocated so many units, they can "order" all of them, some of them, or none of them (the last is unlikely as it is hard to stay in business selling nothing

). There is (one or two?) order "windows" in which they can place orders, up to their alloted quantity. BRP takes a non-refundable deposit from the "dealers account?" at order placement (or order acceptance by BRP, I'm not entirely sure which), if the dealer does not have a buyer, they essentially are up fronting this deposit out of their own pocket. If I've figured all this right, BRP really does not know if the Spyder is a paid customer order, or one that the dealer put $'s into and did not have a sold order. It is obviously better for the dealer to have paid customer orders, as they are not having to put up their own $'s.
If a dealer does not take its full allotment, then the "extras" are offered up to other dealers as additional allotment.
It seems like a pretty fair system for the dealers, I'm not sure if it is a "You sell a lot this year, you get alloted more next year." system, I have not yet asked that question. I would guess this would not be the case until it is rolled out world-wide.
That's how I understand it so far (again, I still do not completely know how it is all set up). IF I've got it figured right, the ones we see offered at dealers now were ones they ordered last year during their allotment periods, but did not have customer orders for. Unlike car dealers, I do not see a "dealer transfer" capability, even if there was, why would a dealer not just do what they are doing.... selling them to make the profit for their dealer? The bright side is it appears very little gouging is going on
