Dont use Eco Mode?

I have heard the Eco Mode impacts the fuel burning and leaves more carbon, etc. Can anyone verify this. Nothing is ever mentioned about what long term impact it has on the engine (from a build up point of view). I am not using it until I hear otherwise (that it is safe).
No sense fouling the engine to save a few miles per gallon.
