looking at a used 2008 spyder w/18K miles although the spedo console shows "READ 5A "
in the middle..What does this mean and should I stay clear of this bike? thanks

Did you ask the seller what that means ?
It might just be a prompt to "Read the safety information card" before you start it.

In general, you should NEVER buy any used vehicle with ANY outstanding mechanical problems.

And before you buy a used Spyder over 10 years old, ask dealers nearby if they still work on them that old.

Welcome to the forum from North Carolina. Glad you decided to join us. Usually if the issue is an easy fix, the seller would take care of it before listing the vehicle for sale. Would definitely determine what the message means or consider another trike.

I just bought a 2008 GS with 3000 km on it in August. It works great. I love it.

I have a 2008 GS990 and love it. I can no longer handle a larger 2 wheel bike (I'm 79). I can go just about anywhere on my Can Am, and have ridden it on some 300 mile plus trips.

I have put the floor boards and handlebar risers on it, which makes it a lot more comfortable.

Before you can start it, you have to push in the Left button on the consol, which tells the computer that you have read the safety information. It will NOT start until you do that.

The newer ones will "time out" after 30 seconds or so and let you start it anyway.
Yours won't do that ???
