Catoctin Mountain/Gettysburg Battlefield Run - More Info

The Catoctin Mountains/Gettysburg Battlefield run will take place on Saturday, 15 August; Rain date: Sunday, 16 August.

The run will begin with breakfast at the Cozy Restaurant in Thurmont MD. Then proceed up Route 15 to Mount St Mary's University for a blessing of the Spyders at Mother Seton Shrine. From there we will come back to Thurmont and begin the Catoctin Mountains portion ending back in Emmitsburg MD. From there, we will proceed north to Gettysburg and stop for lunch at General Pickett's Buffet before proceeding into the battlefield itself. At that point the run officially and and the battlefield tour will be "free flow" since everyone will have different interests.

August 15th is also Bike Night in Martinsburg WV sponsored by the Blue Knights with live music and vendors. For those who wish to go, we could come back to my place after the Catoctin/Gettysburg run and grill outside before going to the event. Or we could just purchase food at the event.
The ride will leave Berkeley Plaza (about 2.5 miles from my house) promptly at 5pm with CHiPs co-star Erik "Ponch" Estrada leading the ride which will wind its way through Berkeley County. . Registration which begins at 2PM is $10. The parade of bikes will arrive downtown at 6pm. This will be followed by a night of Live Music, Food, and Vendors. The event will end at 11pm.

This will be a nice ride. I grew up just down the road from Thurmont and am familiar with the area. Are two wheel bikes also welcome? My wife just started riding the Spyder and I ride a Harley so I'd be accompanied by her.

I used to make that trip with my now ex-wife, since her folks live in Mechanicsburg. It's a nice drive in a truck, but the bugs would get annoying after a while. Especially in the Spring when the Sulphurs were hatching.
