Some people incorrectly call a maintainer a trickle charger but there is a big difference between the two. Trickle chargers continue to charge after the battery is fully charged which will ruin a battery at some point. A battery maintainer will stop charging the battery once it is fully charged and keep it that way, charging every now and then as needed to "maintain" the battery in a fully charged state. Be sure which kind you have before you leave it connected unattended. It is wise to get a modern battery maintainer if all you have is a trickle charger. Much much safer.
