In fact, their advanced Structurally Enhanced Composite Fiber Weave (S.E.C.) design insures the Spec 1R passes what Suomy argues is the most stringent modern helmet safety standard – the British BSI 6658. It’s also DOT-approved. Helmet safety standards aside, a lighter helmet can be expected to manage impact forces better than a heavier helmet of a similar design.
