Hey has anyone had a problem with the motor leaking oil? I can't figure out exactly where it is coming from, but the right side of the motor has had oil on it. I drive about 90 miles a day on it when it is warm, i commute on mine, and it is going through about one and a half quarts every two to three weeks. any ideas?
Some have had oil to leak out of their airbox on the right side.. here are a couple pictures of my airbox when I removed it.. the oil builds up at the X and will leak at the corner..
So is the oil that is getting into the air box supposed to be draining back into the engine through that drain looking deal to the left of the intake horns??

It just keeps collecting in the airbox... most are trying to stop it from getting in there... I replaced my airbox with the KewlMetal Performance Air Filter.. a little noisy but solved the problem of oil in the airbox plus stuff getting past the air filter...if you look close at the pictures I posted you will see grass inside the box and some about to get past the filter...I got a demo unit and someone had run it off the road....

Sounds like the test driver confused the Spyder with Can-Am's four wheelers
hmmmm, interesting. So where is the oil actually coming from?

Wow, it must have a lot of crankcase pressure to be putting out that much oil. I would guess after the rings are seated, blow-by would go down substantially, and thus the crankcase pressure. If not, maybe BRP would consider re-routing the hose?

Found this nice You-tube install for the KEWL Metal filter. He did reroute the hose so the oil will go into the t-body directly. Good idea, but potential downside would be potential plug fowling if oil does not decrease over time.

I watched that video several times before I installed my KewlMetal Air Filter..made it a lot easier.. I'll be checking plugs later to see how everything is working out... ride safe....
ok, this is what I'm being told by my dealer. They are telling me that the oil is coming from the air box. Basically that I am over filling it. They are telling me that the oil temp has to 80 degrees celsius to allow for expansion of the oil. Now i have been through the manuals that i have, and all of the literature that I have says the same thing. But it also says that if the motor is cold the oil lever should be about 1/2 way up the safe zone on the dipstick. I ask my dealer about this and they told me that when the engine is cold the oil should be just barely visible on the dipstick.
Now my question is who should i believe? After the dealer charging me almost $700 to tell me that I was causeing my problem, should I go off what they dealer is saying or the literature from Can am?
