Computer fault codes check

If you want to check for "fault codes" - turn the ignition switch to "on" , clear the warning message with the mode button on the left handlebar, then use the mode button to select the "Hr" mode (it must be in this mode), then depress the headlight override switch on the right front handlebar and the mode switch on the left front handlebar at the same time. While holding these two buttons in, quickly hit the high beam flasher button on the the left grip five times in quick succession - it needs to be quick - it took me a few tries. The fault codes will scroll across the instrument panel.

I,ve experianced quite a bit of troubles latly with my bike and I am new to this forum and I found this post was wondering it there is a differenance between Active codes and passive Code and how would a person find passed codes?

I'm reviewing my own limp mode VSS faulting and from what I have read in the service manual, there are no stored codes, only active. In my case, I drove 1.5 miles, got the fault, returned home, shut it off, read the manual, key on, held mode switch in, flipped the high beam flash 5 times and it now says "NO ACTIVE CODES". Repeated the riding and park it insanity and got the same result.

These bikes are more complex then they need to be. The BUDS software is not available to the public. I believe I currently have a toe-in problem. Slight pull to the right, slight handlebar turn to the left after the replacement of the steering column(don't ask). Now, even If I get the toe-in back to neutral and the handlebar straight and still get SAS limp mode failure, I will have to take my non-warranty 2009 to the dealer for them to perform both an SAS reset and a torque sensor reset. Likely a one week wait for an appt and then $100 service fee to hit two soft buttons on a laptop display. Ridicules.
