Default faulty radiators

today i had a spyder that came in for running hot and going into limp mode.
i duplicated the customers concern. i found the fan relay to be faulty leaving the cooling fan inop. i installed a new relay and the fan worked. the temp didnt get hot as fast but it definately still was running way too hot. while riding, the fan remained on the entire time, and while riding the temp bars never got lower than 6 bars, usually it is 4 bars. i could not figure out why it was running so hot. i called can am and they told me to look for swelling of the radiator. they have noticed several swelling and are not sure as to why they are doing it. i checked the radiator and found it to be swollen, the vertical cooling passages expanded which cause the horizontal cooling fins to become collapsed resulting in restriced air flow. the radiator is being replaced under warranty. just thought i would share my new found experience.

Default Running Hot on A Hot Day

My Spyder SE5 has only 70 miles, and today I went through some stop-and-goes for about 25 miles. The temp showed 4 bars sometimes, but in the stops, it went to 5 and 6 bars----should it run this hot in traffice with stops??? Thanks for considering this problem.

Default

out here in california it is common to hit 6 bars and the fan should bring it back down to 4 bars momentarily. if the fan comes on and shuts off, i wouldn't worry about the temp. the temp climbs quick in stop and go traffic.
