Default SE5 transmission problems ????

I have a 2008 SE5 Spyder. Normally when I come to a stop at a red light the transmission automatically downshifts to 1st and I can take my foot off the brake and the bike either stays stationary or very very slowly crawls forward. I have noticed that after a hard stop the the transmission still downshift to 1st but I must maintain constant brake pressure otherwise the bike wants to go forward almost as if I am throttling it up. I have noticed that the harder the stop, the more prominant the problems is.

Has anybody else had any similar issues or is this "normal" for this type of transmission and centrifugal clutch ?

Thanks in advance for any assistance offered.

I haven't made this correlation, but i have seen where the bike warms up it seems to idle just a bit higher making it creep forward more on a flat surface then when cold.

My SE5 went into gear "E" this morning, right after I left my driveway...had a couple of flashing lights on my dash. Manual said to stop and let system reset to neutral, which it did... I was a little bit concerned; gonna bring it up to my dealer tomorrow.

hi, i work at berts mega mall, a large spyder dealer and am the highest trained spyder tech there. the E message is nothing to worry about, on the manual transmission, it occurs if the driver does a slow shift and on the semi auto, sometimes it pops up going in or out of neutral because the shift drum didn't completely rotate and make contact with the sensor, if you roll it forward or back it will pop into the gear. but there is no concerns to be having if that message comes up. and for the accelerating from a stop with no throttle applied. we had our 1st one come in for that the other day. i called our can am dealer tech line and spoke with them. they told me, they are aware of this issue, but at this moment they have no diagnostic steps to be made nor do they have a fix for it. they told me they have someone looking into it right now since they know this is a huge safety issue. he advised me to let the customer take the spyder as is and just ride with caution until there is a fix for it. im sure it will be a safety recall as soon as they figure it out. if you have any other questions message me, i am very knowledgable on the spyder.

Default Tranny Creep!

My SE has about 1,000 miles on it and ever since the intial service and oil change I have been having the same problem. No E signals yet but I will at least know what to do there. Living in WV and having so many hills I didn't really notice it untill I came off the freeway yesterday and on the level at the end of the ramp stop sign it started to creep on me with the brake on and the tranny felt like it was going to lock up and stall the engine. Not a good feeling when you are looking at a semi coming each way at about 50MPH in the intersection. I sure hope this is fixed or remidied in a timely manner. Bill

Since it would appear that BRP does not have any diagnostic test just yet it may be beneficial if we could make note of or log what was going on with the bike when the problem started occuring. The problem happened again today for me but not as a result of a hard stop. I was in very slow bumper to bumper traffic as a result of a large power outage affecting the stop lights. All of a sudden the problem started occuring. The only thing that was a little out of the ordinary was that I was sometiomes 4 bars and sometimes 5 bars on the temperature guage. When stopped I tried shifting to neutral and it would not go right away. It would take in the area of 5 to 12 seconds to go into neutral. The problem continued on for some time until I got home and shut the bike off.

I have started to shift the bike into nuetral when I know I am going to be stopping and idling for any amount of time. That sort of bypasses any problem but I would think the extra shifting after a long period of time can't be helping anything. I got a cold start at 48 or so this AM on the bike and I noticed it doesn't seem to like taking big gulps of cold air before it warms up completely. It was stumbling on acceration and hesitating quite a bit till it warmed up to 3 bars. I hope that isn't a sign of future cold weather problems and I thought the injection would eliminate the cold weather choke problems of a carburetor? Bill

i had my service advisor talk with can am today and asked about any conclusions to the lurching forward issues. he said so far, to check the throttle position sensor setting and that the "blippers" are sticking sometimes. not sure yet what the blippers are, i am assuming the rollers in the clutch assembly. i will keep keep you posted to any more answers i can find.
