Power outlets

I just installed a powerlet I had in the shop. I have ordered 2 more--1 for the oposite side dash, and 1 for the right side rear pillion rider.
There was just enough room for the powerlet, and I think it would be to tight for the standard 12v cigarette outlet. I did not have to remove the dash, but worked from the side after removing the upper side panel. The powerlet is now tied into my new Blue Sea 6 fuse block.
I have also ordered an angle plug to allow more clearance under the handlebars.

Yes there is just enough room to squeeeeeeze them in where I have them.
You don't have a lot of access room because of working from the side, but it can be done. If you were to take the switch panel off you would have no problem. You just have to make sure that they are placed right because they fit between some other panel braces.
If you were to install 1 in the empty center slot, you would of course have to remove that switch panel. I don't know how much work that involves. I'm lazy and look for the easy way out

Hello Inspector,
I see you have mounted a GPS mount to the bars how did you do it? Can the bar screws be removed safely? I am new to the RT so I am just learning. I like the power outlets, do the panel come off easily? Too many question?

Hey Dave,
The 2 bar screws closest to the seat were removed to install the brackets and then replaced after applying lock tight to the threads. I used terminal electrical connectors after bending them and then tapping into the open end where you would normally place and crimp the #6 wire. I had to use some SS nuts as spacers to get the brackets high enough to clear the bar cover.
The 1/8" aluminum plate was cut just big enough to fit the GPS adapter mount that holds the swiveling bracket. If you go to my web space you can see more photos of the mount on the Photo Gallery page www.spyderrt.embarqspace.com
As far as the power outlets---the panels do come off easy, but you have to remove several items to get them off--starting with the mirrors.
