Default 2011 Spyder RTS/SE5 vs. Standard Trike !

I purchased a 2011 RTS/SE5 Spyder (Can-am) a couple of months ago. I was looking at a 2009 Suzuki C50T (800cc) trike made by Lehman straight from their factory. They were selling it for around $18,000. They told me today, that to trike a Goldwing costs about $12,500. That is about what the charge was on the Suzuki C50T. The dealer ( East Coast Cycle Center, Bensalem, Pa.) said there is no comparison with the handling between a CanAm Spyder and a standard trike. The CanAm was much safer to drive. I never got to drive a trike of any kind, however. I would presume that the GW trike would be much smoother because of 6 cyclinders and 1800cc. I saw 2 GW trikes today at the dealer. They really looked sharp. I forgot to talk to the owners and asked them their opinion between the two. I do notice that you pick up more road bumps and highway distortion on the Spyder. I am sure it is due to soooo much tire on the road. The rear picks up the center strip and the 2 fronts pick up on both sides of the lane. I guess even with GW trikes it has to be the same. The GW trikes are really sharp looking, but I get millions of people talking to me at stop lights everywhere I go. They all love the Spyder. I am sure that more people will be driving 3 wheelers then ever before. I know the women feel safer then being on the back of a 2 wheeler. I feel very stable on the Spyder. I get thumbs up with everyone, even the Harley riders.

When I decided to go from 2 wheels to possibly a Harley trike I got onto their forum and read a few comments and comparisons they had between the 2 vs. 3 wheels. Since much of my issue was with leaning into turns I decided a trike would be no different. When I spoke to the dealer about the spyder vs. trikes he said...think of a wheel barrow and how it moves..that's the difference between 2 wheels in the back vs. the spyders' stability with 2 in the front..I was sold! Love my RS semi auto and have not regretted selling my bike! Good luck, you can't go wrong with this ride...

I have a Gold Wing trike and a Spyder. I have 61K miles on the Wing and 3,500 on my new RT. They are different rides. Both are great...and it takes time getting used to them. I had to ride 500 on the Wing and 1,000 on the Spyder before I loved both. The GW electronics, radio/CB are much better than the BRP equipment.

Both are stable in their own way, better than the other in different ways. Ya can not go wrong with either machine. Ya pays your money and ya takes your chance. JMHO
