Default Lane Splitting

I know this is legal in some areas. There is talk up here to make it legal, but even more bikers are going to be heading to the hospital if it goes thru up here..

I know this will be a tad difficult with a Spyder , but i am curious about how many people drive up the emergency parking lane/s in heavy traffic. I know some guys I have talked to here do it and some say they will start doing it

I am not sure if I would do it as I still have the car mentality about people taking "shortcuts" instead of doing like 95% of people do and stay in the line up/s

thoughts ?

Good issue to discuss Pal!
My Missus and I just LOVE folks who do this sort of thing; they're called "Organ Donors", and she's a transplant patient!
Seriously though; If you were on two wheels and mindlessly flogging your way up through a traffic snarl; what would you do if somebody emptied an ashtray right out their window into your face-shield??
If you're in that much of a hurry; you need to budget your time better and leave earlier!

when I was a 2 wheeler in California, I would split lanes at red lights. Now that I'm in Arizona, I always feel a pucker factor until the next car stops behind me. I worry that the driver is just not paying attention to the motorcycle in front of him!

I like the added visibility of the Spyder because of the larger size. I think drivers are more likely to see it as a car versus an invisible motorcycle.

Also, when traffic is stopped on the freeway, it was a huge time saver. For the most part, people would give room to riders splitting between the fast lane and the number 2 lane. BUT, it is dangerous, no argument there.

yeah I think one of the biggest safety factors with a Spyder is the size and how it sticks out like a sore thumb

along with size to me it seems like there is more ways to let it be seen easier instead of just the noise factor most bikes seem to rely on.

hehe

I think anyone who can't see me from behind better go get a new white cane

it's an amazing feeling seeing cars back off when I out on a signal and when you see the looks on their faces in the mirror when I hit the brakes. Looks like they are getting sunburned

hehe

That's the one! I personally think that he should mount up a rear-view camera so that he can perhaps video the looks on peoples' faces when he activates all of those lights...

I'm not a fan of lane-splitting, though its not against the law in Oklahoma. Seems risky on a bike as most folks aren't used to watching for people doing that here, and Spyders are 5' across so definitely too wide to make that comfortable. My thoughts anyway.

I agree! I'm even willing to share the lane with motorcycles...
