Saw a two wheeler go down today here in Vegas. I was Spydering along with my Frau coming home from an afternoon, kids in school, day date. And on the opposite side of the road I see chrome glistening in the sun in a way it ought not to followed by a rider face down.
I pull over in a turning lane, stop, and throw on my emergency flashers, so I can hop off and go lend aid, as well as to block the turn lane from anyone turning and running over the poor guy. Dude is face down, bleeding, and vocalizing to verbal stimulus. His goggles no longer have any glass in them and he's got a nasty contusion above his left eye. He's got an airway and the bleeding isn't major so for spinal protection, I have him lay as he is waiting for the rescue crew to arrive.
A woman comes up and says she's a nurse from the local trauma center and tells this guy to roll over on his back. I wanted to choke her. It takes minimally three trained people with proper equipment to properly turn a trauma victim. I was livid. I told the cop, "so much for spinal precautions, is it OK if I go, 'trauma nurse' here obviously has it under control." I just hope the guy doesn't have a spinal injury complicated by her nonsense. I should have spoken up, but as military nurse, I don't have to be licensed in the state I'm stationed in if I don't work off base. I'm basically a good Samaritan and she's licensed by the state to provide medical care. I hated ceding my education and training because I didn't have papers. Ugh.
After seeing the results of a face in a skull cap helmet versus road, it's obvious full face is the way to go. Had this guy had a full face helmet, he likely would have walked away. As it was, he had a loss of consciousness, huge knot above his left eye, potential eye injury (I didn't assess) from shattered googles, and probably a broken nose. Depending on the guy's head scan, he might be lucky enough to be treated and released.
It was a pretty helpless feeling trying to help the guy out. Wasn't a whole lot I could do with a leftover piece of pizza and a salad. It's a lot different than having an ambulance or ER full of supplies and equipment. Hope the guy does OK.
good thing there was a " no fall off " bike around to at least try and do the proper thing

It is truly a shame that practical experience has to bow down to people with certificates. All to often people with good intentions can cause more injury to downed riders. I guess that the trauma nurse is used to dealing with people after the spine and neck have been stabilized.
I applaud you for your efforts. Many people would have passed by rubber necking, endangering the lives of the good Samaritans trying to help.

I would have stopped too assuming no one was there to help already. If others were already assisting, there would be little I could do to help. Hope he is okay.
Was there any indication as to what caused the fellow's accident? It's a shame that the nurse forgot something so very important...

The pillion was saying an SUV pulled out in front of them. I didn't see the actual collision, but judging from the damage on the SUV, it looked like the motorcyclist hit the back of the vehicle pretty square and there weren't skid marks. SUV may have pulled out, but I'd guess it was more biker inattention than driver failure to yield. Strictly speculation though.
with nuttin to protect a biker inattention will get you killed dead real fast

Man, that sucks. Hope he came out of it ok. That's why I wear a full face helmet regardless of the season.... I'd rather have to shake my head to clear the double vision than go to the hospital to clean the glass out of my face.
That nurse needs a refresher course - its a shame there's nowhere to report these things so proper re-education can be required.
