Default Crossed jumper cable when jump starting

My son crossed the jumper cables when trying to jump start spyder. Now I have several faults, vss fault, abs fault, and ebd fault. Also gear selector says 0 instead of neutral. Bike wont start, one fuse blew and it was the rectifier fuse and I replaced that. Bike wont start as well. Where do i start to figure out what went wrong? Any spyder techs out there?

My guess is that you will need to make a trip to the dealer and get hooked up to the buds system to clear the faults provided nothing else was damaged. As far as starting goes it is possible to start the spyder in gear if you press on the brake. You would still be in the limp home mode but it may be possible to get it running. There is a section in the owners manual that discusses jump starting the spyder that is pretty specific about what can happen and the order in which things need to be done. With all the computers on a spyder they do not take kindly to this type of thing and you may well have significient additional damage that will need to be addressed.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.....best of luck and let us know how things turn out.

WOW, dealer said the same thing. You would think there would be some type of saftey protection in case this happens. Thanks again for the info.

Back in the 70's I said the same thing when the timing belt broke on my Fiat 131 and the valves droped into the cylinders and took out the whole engine.

Most of your new chargers will protect against cross connection but with jumper cables you do have to be careful.

Arc-welding with the jumpers never works out too well...
I'm sorry that your son had to learn that in this manner. Please let us know what the dealer says after the level of damage has been determined. Good Luck!
