Anyone have recommendations for a radar detector for the spyder? Thanks.

I don't it matters what kind of bike you have.. just find the one that suites you best

up here in Canada some provinces have outlawed radar detectors so you have to knwo which ones and be carefull when you are in them

I prefer to watch the speedometer and not exceed the speed limit... then again, that's just a grandma for ya!

I've a Bel 950 which is good value for the price and a Valentine which is very good but more expensive. I don't use on either on my Spyder so can't comment on how that would work.

I'm not sure if anybody makes a detector specifically designed for motorcycle useage... Waterproofing, controls designed for left hand actuation and jacks to pipe the warnings into helmet-mounted speakers...
I'm with Sassa; the way that I ride I'd never need a detector!

^5! Grandkids are way more fun than kids, don't you think? All the play, none of the responsibility!

Under the speed limit could get you in a bad situation as well. Be careful with that!! Just today on the way home (in my car - its 101 degrees out there) I had someone fly around me after not bothering to stop at the stop sign. Idiots are everywhere... ride safe!

If only there were a bounty on idiots...
There's enough of them around to make augmenting the "Social Insecurity checks" very worthwhile!

I use an Escort Passport 8500 X50 and it works well. I use the clip in mount, but substituted larger suction cups I picked up from Office Max locally. I place a piece of dense foam between the detector and the top of the dash. Suction cups hold it very securely. For sound warning, the 8500 has an earphone jack you can run up to your helmet.
I ride with an MP3 player. I was able to use a mini plug patch cable between the detector and a Y adapter plugged into my MP3 player. There is some sound loss because you are paralleling the two audio signals. If you don't have the music up too loud, you can hear the detector alert just fine. My riding is all desert, risk of rain this time of year, monsoon season. Detector would only get minimal windshield protection in the rain, but if it is raining are you going to speed anyway? I won't. Pull over and put the detector in the trunk before you hit the hard rain.

Hope this helps. I bought mine on Ebay from the Escort outlet store. Factory reconditioned with 90 day warranty for about $230 at the time.
