UPDATE:
Emailed KewlMetal Blog and asked if their mirror extensions would work with my windshield. They said yes. Ordered.
They arrived a week or so later. The instructions included pictures with each step... I appreciated that, though I'm not sure that part was as important to my husband, who actually completed the install. He got them put on in about half an hour, give or take, and used lock tite to make sure they got the best grip they could get. The windshield fits perfectly next to the extensions without touching.
Took the bikes out, and the mirrors have a minor tremor, though I expect that's because they're hanging out there further in the wind than they used to be. Its not enough that I can't tell what's behind me; probably will be something I'll get used to the longer I ride.
The important part is that I can see past my hands. Very happy with the end result.
